OVPR Funds for Research and Scholarship

Publication Subvention

PURPOSE: OVPR and LS&A have established a coordinated program to provide faculty with an opportunity to apply for subventions to assist in the costs of manuscript publication. Subventions are considered particularly appropriate in cases where publication costs are unusually high due to artwork, maps, photographs, and other special production elements.

NOT covered by subventions are routine author activities, such as indexing; or page and reprint costs of articles in professional journals.

OTHER SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES: OVPR will consider arrangements similar to those for LS&A faculty. Matching support (50% of the subvention request) is required from the faculty applicant's school or college.

ELIGIBILITY: Continuing Instructional Faculty, Research Scientists, Librarians, Curators, and Archivists are eligible for subvention assistance.

AWARD AMOUNT: Publication subvention support is awarded on a competitive basis and is NOT guaranteed. Applications which are approved for funding will receive an award up to a maximum of $5,000.

DEADLINES AND TIMELINE:
Application Deadline
February 15
June 15
October 15

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: If a publisher wants the faculty to seek subvention support, faculty members should make preliminary inquiries about support from their departments before signing a contract with the publisher. Faculty should also seek support from outside the University. If the department and outside funding do not cover all of publishing costs, then the faculty member may apply to the Publications Subvention Program. Applicants should complete the publication subvention application form. Indicate if non-OVPR funds are pending or confirmed. Include a signed agreement with the publisher, the publisher's inquiry of a subvention and a budget indicating total publication costs. Provide a brief CV or biography of the applicant.
