The Career Awards at the Scientific Interface (CASI) grants are intended to foster the early career development of researchers with backgrounds in the physical/computational sciences whose work addresses biological questions and who are dedicated to pursuing a career in academic research. The awards provide up to $500,000 over five years to support up to two years of advanced postdoctoral training and the first three years of a faculty appointment. Eligibility Criteria: Nominees must hold a Ph.D. degree in one of the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry (physical, theoretical, or computational), computer science, statistics, or engineering. The competition is open to US and Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Temporary residents may apply if they can provide evidence that lawful immigration status has been granted and that it will be extended for the duration of the award.
Candidates must have completed at least six months but not more than 48 months of postdoctoral training. Candidates must not hold or have accepted a faculty appointment as a tenure track assistant professor.
For the internal competition, candidates should provide: 1) CURRICULUM VITAE (no more than three pages): Including summary of all current external research support.
2) PROPOSAL SUMMARY (one page): Describe your proposed work and summarize past research.
2) RESEARCH PLAN (no more than six pages, including figures): Describe the scope and significance of your postdoctoral research; work you plan for the faculty years; career objectives, including how the award will help you achieve these objectives.
3) LETTER OF NOMINATION: A recommendation (limited to two pages) by the candidate's department chair or faculty sponsor. Additional letters of support will be required for submission to the Foundation.
