The University of Michigan has been invited to nominate one candidate to apply for the Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholars in Aging Program for 2008.

new independent investigators of outstanding promise in basic biomedical research relevant to aging, in the first three (3) years of their research career following their post doctoral fellowship experience. For the 2008 competition, as of March 1, 2008, nominees must hold regular full time appointments (tenure or non-tenure) on the faculty of the sponsoring institution and they must not have been in such an appointment, at the sponsoring institution or other institution(s), for more than three years as of July 15, 2008, i.e., the appointment having been made no earlier than July 15, 2005.

Beginning in 2008, each award provides up to $100,000 per year, total costs, for a four-year period. Funding for years two, three and four is contingent upon submission of an acceptable progress report. Details on the goals of the program, eligibility requirements, and terms of the award, may be found on the FoundationŐs website.

For consideration as the institutional nominee, submit the following electronically in a single file, PDF:

  1. 3-5 page letter of intent responsive to the RFP, including:
    • Description of research proposal,
    • its significance,
    • how it will be carried out and
    • how it is likely to have an impact in the field of biomedical aspects of aging
  2. Personal statement describing goals in the field of biomedical aspects of aging
  3. NIH formatted biosketch
  4. Nominating letter from dean or department chair
