The National Academies, with funding from the MacArthur Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation, call for nominations/applications for the Jefferson Science Fellowship. Nominations and applications are invited for tenured academic scientists, technologists, and engineers for selection as Jefferson Science Fellows at the Department of State. Each Fellow will spend one year at the Department of State in Washington D. C. in either a regional or functional bureau and may coordinate with embassies overseas. Following the fellowship year, the Fellow will return to his/her academic career but will remain available to the US government for short-term projects. Applicants are evaluated on:
he Fellow will receive a stipend of $50,000 which is intended to offset the costs of moving and temporary living quarters in the D. C. area; salary and benefits will be paid by the academic institution.
Nominations and applications are limited to scientists, technologists, and engineers holding a tenured faculty appointment at a US college or university; a US citizen willing to complete and maintain the security clearance required to undertake the duties within the Department of State.
The University may only nominate TWO candidates so if you are interested, please let me know asap, certainly no later than Monday, November 27 and cc Marvin Parnes, mgparnes@umich.edu, in OVPR. Guidelines may be found at www.national-academies.org/jsf and the receipt deadline is December 31, 2006. At one time, we did have a MOU with the State Department and I will check with them to see if it is still valid. Yes, a PAF will be required showing all salary and benefits as cost sharing.
Have a good day,
Sharyn
