NOTE: The Pew Program has not updated their web site for the 2009 competition. This is usually updated in August. The information below is based on previous guidelines. At this time, we are soliciting nominations for the internal competition and will update you if there are any changes to eligibility criteria or guidelines.

The Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences is designed to support young investigators of outstanding promise in the basic and clinical sciences relevant to the advancement of human health. The award is intended to provide support for junior faculty as they establish their laboratories. Candidates must hold a doctorate in medicine, other health related professions or biomedical sciences. As of November 1, 2008, candidates must hold full time appointments at the rank of assistant professor. On July 1, 2009, they must not have been in this appointment for more than three years. Scholars may not simultaneously be supported by similar private foundation awards in excess of $25,000 for the first two years of their Pew Scholarship. However, candidates who receive awards that support their salary only are eligible to apply. The award is $60,000 per year for four years subject to annual review of the Scholar's progress. The sponsor's deadline in previous years was November 1st. The University of Michigan is allowed to submit one nomination.
