Wilson Medical Research Foundation Grants for Discovery in the Biomedical Sciences

The Ralph C. Wilson, Sr. and Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Medical Research Foundation announces their 2005 Research Grants for Discovery in the Biomedical Sciences. This year's program is designed to foster novel and innovative research in cardiovascular diseases, cancer, neurosciences, and musculoskeletal disorders. Projects should be innovative cutting edge basic science calculated to advance new ideas leading to new or improved drugs, therapies, treatments, devices, etc. The program encourages expansive thinking resulting in proposals that may be difficult to fund in traditional ways due to the high-risk nature of the proposed research.
UM may submit up to three proposals. The principal investigator must be a full-time UM faculty member (Asst. to Full Professor or Asst. to Senior Research Scientist). Each grant provides up to $100,000 per year for up to two years. Funding will start approximately January 1, 2006.

The Biomedical Research Council will review preproposals to select the institutional nominees. Please submit all required preproposal materials electronically in a single PDF by Wednesday, August 17, 2005 to: limitedsubmissions@umich.edu.
Required pre-proposal materials are:
- Cover page with investigator title and contact information
- One page summary of proposal in lay language
- Four pages maximum description of research design and methods, including significance and impact of research
- Two pages maximum proposed budget (including justification) (Indirect cost rate=10%. This cost is included in the $100,000 limit)
- Standard NIH-style, four-page biographical sketch including other support for the principal investigator
