Special tips on using SPIN to find fellowship or student support.

(Please read the SPIN HELP page to learn how to get good results from your SPIN searches in general.)

A. If you are looking for Postdoctoral fellowships:
  1. In the Applicant Type list, choose "Postdoc" .
  2. In the Award Type list, either choose nothing or choose BOTH "Fellowship" and "Training/Professional Development".

B. If you are a graduate student now, and you are looking for a postdoctoral fellowship to be used after you complete your doctorate, choose both "Student, Graduate" and "Postdoc" from the Applicant Type list.

C. If you are a graduate student looking for funds to support yourself while you are writing your dissertation:
  1. Choose "Student, Graduate" from the Applicant Type list.
  2. Always choose "Dissertation," "Fellowship" and "Writing Project" from the Award Type list.
  3. In addition to the choices in #2, choose any other values from the Award Type list that apply to your individual case. For instance, choose "Research Development/R & D" if it applies to your situation. It may or may not.
