OVPR Funds for Research and Scholarship
Core Facilities or Shared Equipment
PURPOSE:
Limited funds are available to help obtain state-of-the art equipment and core facilities in cases where external funding for this purpose is otherwise unavailable or insufficient. Preference will be given to meeting high priority equipment needs that will enhance the research efforts of more than one research unit. It is expected that these facilities will be widely available to faculty throughout the University. Ongoing recurrent cost, such as operating and maintenance cost, will be borne by participating units and usage fees. This program is not intended to cover equipment or renovation for individual investigators or projects or equipment that would normally be available through successful applications to sponsors.
Research deans, unit directors, or others with responsibility for major research facilities are expected to provide leadership for core research facilities and equipment applications. OVPR expects a minimum 50% matching contribution towards total cost.
DEADLINES: This competition is run three times per year: February 15, June 15 ad October 15.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: In addition to the application form below, please submit to OVPR a brief narrative that indicates the following:
- Description of the equipment
- Justification of the need (including reason for duplication of identical or similar equipment available elsewhere on campus, if applicable);
- Identification of primary expected users of equipment or facility;
- Justification of need for internal funding if any external sources are potentially available;
- Explanation of how the unit plans to meet recurrent costs associated with the acquisition.
