Collegiate Research Professorship
Nomination Guidelines
Research Faculty Awards Home
2008 nomination deadline: February 22, 2008
Eligibility: Any full Research Professor at the University of Michigan with at least a 75% appointment. Tenured and tenure-track faculty are not eligible for this award.
Note: Individuals still within the award term of a previous Collegiate Research Professorship or Distinguished Research Scientist Award are not eligible.
Award: The recipient will be awarded a stipend of $2,000 per year for the initial five-year renewable term of the professorship provided the awardee remains employed at the University. The honor of the named Collegiate Research Professorship is conferred at the annual Faculty Awards dinner.
No more than one Collegiate Research Professorship will be awarded each year. Note: The named Collegiate Research Professor title may be renewed, however the stipend is not renewable past the first five years.
Selection Criteria: Exceptional scholarly achievement and impact on advancing knowledge in science, engineering, health, education, the arts, the humanities or other academic field of study.
Nomination Process: Complete the Nomination Cover Page and send it with the materials listed below to the Awards Committee by the deadline.
- A one-page description of the qualities and accomplishments that make the individual a superior choice for the award.
- A CV for the nominee.
- A maximum of five (5) letters of support with at least two from outside the University, from a range of individuals knowledgeable about the nominee’s work and that demonstrate the nominee’s significant contributions to his/her field.
- A page with the name of the deceased or retired faculty member who will be named in the Professorship title with a rationale as to why this naming is appropriate for the Professorship nominee.
Deadline: The completed nomination form should be submitted to the Research Faculty Awards Committee, 4052 Fleming Building -1340 by Friday, February 22, 2008.
Selection: The award recipient is selected by the Vice President for Research based on the recommendation of the Research Faculty Awards Committee.
Announcement of Award: The recipient, if any, will be announced in early fall in coordination with the annual Faculty Awards dinner.
