Maio to direct human research compliance office |

UM emergency medicine professor Ron Maio, D.O., M.S., has been named the director of the Office of Human Research Compliance Review (OHRCR). Maio is also Assistant Dean for Research Regulatory Affairs, Medical School, and Professor of Environmental Health Sciences, SPH and Assistant Research Scientist, UMTRI.
The OHRCR focuses on compliance with federal, state, and university policies aimed at safeguarding humans participating in research. OHRCR conducts reviews of non-compliance, audits research protocols, and initiates periodic reviews of the Institutional Review Boards and other parts of the University's Human Research Participant Protection Program.
OHRCR also assists with the UM's application for accreditation by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs. Accreditation demonstrates that the University is committed to the most comprehensive protections for research participants and the highest quality research.
Maio's research interest is pre-hospital care and injury research, particularly the relationship of alcohol and drug use to injury. He earned his medical degree from the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1976, and is certified in Emergency Medicine. He joined the UM faculty in 1989.
