Graduate Student Research Assistantship (GSRA) Appointments

Graduate student research assistantship appointments may be made for graduate students in good standing who are enrolled for 6 or more credit hours during the appointment period. Eligible appointments are accompanied by health and life insurance, a waiver of tuition and other benefits (See GSRA Cost Estimates).

See the UM Human Resources web pages, Graduate Student Research Assistantship Program, for detailed information on GSRA policies and procedures.

Certification of Graduate Student Research Assistants
To ensure compliance with federal requirements, Graduate Student Research Assistants must certify to their efforts charged to sponsored projects, using the turnaround document (TAD). Each semester, the Faculty and Staff Records Office distributes the TADs to the academic departments/research units in which the GSRAs are employed. The individual TAD must be signed by the Graduate Student Research Assistant to certify his or her appointment under the project account(s) indicated on the document for the period indicated and must be returned to Faculty and Staff Records. Any subsequent cost disallowance due to non-certification must be borne by the appointing department/unit.
