FY 1994 Annual Report to the Regents

Biomedical Core Facilities
at the University of Michigan

The Biomedical Core Facilities in the UM Medical Center give biomedical researchers access to sophisticated instrumentation that individual researchers or laboratories could not afford. The core facilities also provide highly trained personnel to carry out procedures for researchers and train investigators in new techniques. The facilities include equipment for DNA sequencing, computer graphics for protein modeling and DNA analysis, and safe culture and analysis of microorganisms such as HIV. The core facilities has been jointly supported by the Medical School, Office of the vice President for Research (OVPR), and other UM units with additional funds obtained through outside sponsorship. Having core facilities available at the UM has aided researchers in obtaining outside grants because it reduces the need to request capital equipment and training.
