As the Assistant Vice President for Research-Strategic Communications, Alex Piazza collaborates with teams across all three campuses to promote the impact and importance of research and scholarship at the University of Michigan. He also works to generate increased awareness around the breadth of tools and resources available to the U-M community so that teams can advance their important research and scholarship.

Piazza leads a team of communicators that oversee a number of channels targeting both internal and external audiences. As part of his role, Piazza works with university leadership to develop and implement strategic communication plans around important announcements and issues. He also oversees issues management, drafts news releases, designs newsletters and updates websites in support of the research enterprise.

He joined the Office of the Vice President for Research in 2014 as a communications manager. Prior to his work at OVPR, Piazza served as a communications specialist at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Piazza received a master’s degree in general administration from Central Michigan University.
